Senators Introduce the REACH Act
Senator Tim Scott (R-SC, above left) and Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD, above right) introduced the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Health Act (REACH). If passed, funding for the bill would be budgeted at no less than $70 million for each of the fiscal years from 2021 to 2025. Specifically, the REACH Act “would codify the REACH program by authorizing grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements to support projects aimed at enhancing health outcomes, preventing and managing chronic conditions, and reducing disparities faced by racial and ethnic minority populations.” There would also be an increase in the number of health care and public health professionals from underrepresented populations to support local initiatives battling chronic health conditions.
