Satcher Health Leadership Institute Hosts Health Equity Kickoff

In July, the Satcher Health Leadership Institute and Google.org hosted the Health Equity Kickoff. Over 100 participants from the health equity field including 12 lightning talk presentations, and six introductory remarks speakers participated and attended the event. The event laid the groundwork for creating a comprehensive, public-facing data platform to track health inequities in the United States. Information was collected from the event in an effort to identify challenges, barriers, and solutions in capturing the information needed to address the disparities affecting Black, Indigenous, Hispanic and other vulnerable communities. Next steps include hosting Google.org fellows who will be working with Satcher Health Leadership Institute staff to develop a data repository and a COVID-19 disparities data map. In May, Google awarded a $1 Million grant to Satcher Health Leadership Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine to study the racial impact of COVID-19. This partnership enables real-time COVID-19 collection and study of detailed demographic data about the communities of color that are being hit hardest by the pandemic. The National REACH Coalition is proud to be part of this effort.
